This is how I connected by Brother Printer to Wi-Fi!

If you have just purchased your Brother Printer and having issues when it comes to connecting it to the Wi-Fi then there is nothing to worry about it.

We will help you to connect brother printer to Wi-Fi in some simple steps. The best part is that you don’t need any technical knowledge to do the same.

See your wireless settings

You should know all the wireless settings before you connect brother printer to wifi. You need to know the Network Name as well as the Network Password which is also known as the security key.

If you don’t know where to find this information then you should look beside your router. You can find the details on a sticker on the router. If it isn’t there, then you can see the router’s documentation and look for the information online. Once you have it, you can connect your brother printer to wifi.

Option 1- Wireless direct setup

This option lets you connect the printer to your system or smartphone directly that too without a wifi access point. If this is the case then the Brother printer usually works as a wifi access point. You can use this method with the help of the steps that we will be sharing with you.

For Windows

  • Check the Wireless Direct settings of the printer
  • Connect the printer to the computer with the help of a USB cable
  • Start the Printer Setting Tool on your system and click the option that says ‘Communication Settings’
  • In the ‘General’ option, confirm that Wireless Direct is picked for Selected Interface
  • Press and hold the Wi-Fi button on your printer for about a second to turn on the Wi-Fi function
  • Use your laptop to choose the SSID of your printer and enter the password
  • The Wi-Fi (Wi-Fi) indicator lights in blue once the connection has been established

For MAC

  • Check and confirm the Wireless Direct settings of the printer
  • Connect the printer to the laptop with a USB cable
  • Open the Printer Setting Tool on your system
  • Confirm that Wireless Direct is turned on in the ‘Wireless LAN’ option
  • Press and hold the Wi-Fi button on your printer for about a second to turn the Wi-Fi function on
  • Use your computer or mobile device to choose the SSID of your printer and enter the password.
  • The Wi-Fi (Wi-Fi) indicator lights in blue once the connection has been established

Make sure that you don’t press the wifi button for a long time. If you hold it for more than 5 seconds then the printer will enter the WPS mode and your connection will eventually fail.

However, you can’t connect to the internet through wifi while you are using Wireless Direct. You should use a wired connection or connect to an Infrastructure mode to use the internet.

Option 2- Infrastructure mode setup

This mode gives you the permission to connect the printer to a system or a mobile device with the help of a wifi access point or a router. You can follow the steps mentioned below:

For Windows PC

  • Connect the printer with a USB cable to the computer.
  • Press and hold the Wi-Fi button on your printer for a second to turn the Wi-Fi function on.
  • The WiFi indicator should start blinking in blue once in every three seconds.
  • Initiate the Printer Setting Tool on your system, and click the ‘Communication Settings’ option
  • Pick the “Wireless LAN” for “Selected Interface” in the “General” tab
  • Select Infrastructure for “Communication Mode” in “Wireless Settings” in the Wireless LAN option
  • Type in the SSID that you wrote, or click “Search” and pick the SSID from the shown list.
  • Enter the password as “Passphrase”
  • Click the “Apply” button

For MAC

  • Connect the Brother printer and the system
  • Press and hold the Wi-Fi button on your printer for a second to turn the Wi-Fi on.
  • The WiFi indicator should start flashing in blue once every three seconds.
  • Begin the Wireless Device Setup Wizard comprised in the Printer Driver Package, and then follow the instructions displayed on the screen.
  • If you have not downloaded the Printer Driver Package then download it.
  • Click twice on the downloaded file. You can find the Wireless Device Setup Wizard in the “Utilities” folder.
  • Enter the SSID that you have, or click “Search” and choose the SSID from the list.
  • Enter the password as “Passphrase and select to ‘Apply’

When the connection between the printer and your Wi-Fi access point/router is established, the Wi-Fi (Wi-Fi) indicator light will turn blue. Computers and mobile devices that are on the same network as the printer will have an access to the printer.

You can pick either of the two methods that have been mentioned and use them as per your convenience to connect the Brother printer to wifi. If there is anything else you would like to know then you can get in touch with the Support team.
